The Young Show

Where Our Local Community Comes Together!

Sunday 21st September 2025

Every year, something special happens at the Young Showground.

For locals and regular visitors, it’s more than just an event on the calendar. It’s a tradition that’s been bringing our community together — since 1871.

it’s our chance to celebrate who we are, where we have come from, and everything we are growing into.

In 2024, the Young Show marked its 150th Show, a milestone that speaks volumes about the strength of this community event.

Over the decades, the Show has changed in many ways — new attractions, new faces, and even a few different locations — but one thing has stayed the same: it’s always been about local people showcasing what they love and what they do best.

Behind the scenes, more than 20 committee members pour their time, energy, and heart into making it happen, with over 100 helpers jumping in during the big week leading up to the show. It’s a massive effort — but one that everyone is proud to be part of.

These days, the Young Show is a mix of the old and the new. You will still find local produce, livestock, and local artworks and handmade crafts displaying proudly in the pavilion — but you’ll also find truck, car and bike shows, yard dog trials, and over 300 birds in the poultry shed. The cattle show is always well attended, especially with support from local schools, and of course the rides and 8pm fireworks continue to be crowd favourites.

It’s the kind of event where every generation finds something to love, and where first-time visitors are often surprised by just how much there is to see, do, and feel.

One of the most ‘feel good’ attractions each year is the school art sheet display — where over a dozen local schools, daycares and OOSH programs paint and decorate bed sheets to hang throughout the pavilion. Last year, there were 63 sheets in total — each one telling a different story of creativity, community and pride.

Local businesses are deeply woven into the Show as well. Over 200 businesses support the event through sponsorships, donations, hands-on help, and encouragement — showing just how connected the Show is to the backbone of the town.

As President, Emma Godsell shared:

“There’s more to Young than just cherries. We have a vibrant agricultural community and so much local produce. If you can’t readily see or touch it, you might not even know it’s here — until the Show brings it to light.”

That’s the magic of the Show. It opens our eyes to the people and possibilities around us — things we might otherwise overlook.

With Mad Harry’s Steel proudly standing as the 2025 Major Sponsor, the future of the Show looks strong. But the real strength lies in how much the community still shows up — not just to watch, but to be part of It all.

The Young Show isn’t just an event.  It’s a reminder of what’s possible when a town comes together — year after year, generation after generation.

See you there!
